Only Favoring His Wife Chapter 9

He averted his gaze, focusing on the crimson meat in the bowl. Yet, his heart felt far from well; it throbbed painfully. "I'm such a fool. Even now, I can't grasp it. How could Qin Mucheng... genuinely care for me? It's merely a facade for showing Grandpa Qin," Ye Yunjin muttered sarcastically to himself. He reached for the chopsticks once more, this time lifting the red meat and devouring it quietly. He reasoned that, even if it was all a charade, he had briefly believed it was real, and that fleeting sense of happiness was worth something. Qin Mucheng, seated beside him, couldn't help but sense Ye Yunjin's peculiar mood but remained preoccupied with his own thoughts.

Naturally, he remained oblivious to Ye Yunjin's changes, thus refraining from probing further with additional inquiries. This also added many obstacles to Qin Mucheng's future pursuit of his wife . However, how can a relationship that has not experienced ups and downs gain true love?

The meal transpired serenely. After a brief sojourn at his ancestral residence, Qin Mucheng prepared to return to the office to tackle the morning's unfinished paperwork. Just as he was about to depart, Bai Yiyan suggested that Ye Yunjin stay with Grandpa Qin in the living room for a while, while she whisked Qin Mucheng away to an outdoor spot.

"Mucheng, Mom understands that your workplace is is far away from home, and it is inconvenient for you to go back and forth to work. Mother isn't insisting you live here, just encouraging you to visit more when you have free time, and spend quality moments with your grandpa and me. Please don't blame your grandpa. I'm at fault too for the situation between you and Yun Jin. I knew from the start that you weren't keen on marrying him, but I allowed your grandpa to put his own health at risk and forgo surgery to pressure you into agreeing, leaving you with no choice.

You've always been wiser than your peers, and there's nothing for me to be concerned about. This is the only request I have for you. Yun Jin is a fine young man. His parents were close friends of your grandfather for many years, but tragically, they were involved in a car accident, and the rescue efforts were in vain.

Yun Jin lost his parents at a tender age, just 9 years old. Furthermore, when he was 14, your grandfather's dear friend also passed away, overwhelmed by sorrow. Before his passing, he entrusted your grandfather with the care of Yun Jin. So, when both your grandfather and we discovered your affection for a man and your aversion to women, it became impossible to separate you two. Your grandfather believed it would be more beneficial for you to have Yun Jin become a part of the Qin family instead of allowing you to be with that man, Liu Mingxi. Your grandfather's intentions were purely for your well-being, as he deemed Liu Mingxi unsuitable for you."

Naturally, Mom can see that Yun Jin's child has a genuine fondness for you. For some undisclosed reason, Bai Yiyan refrained from uttering this final sentence.

Upon hearing his mother's words, Qin Mucheng acknowledged that Ye Yunjin's background and appearance were indicative of such feelings. However, following the betrayal, he harbors no lingering bitterness toward his family; instead, he feels a profound gratitude towards them.

--------------------------------------------------------------

"Yun Jin, are you doing well living with Mucheng? Has he said anything unfavorable to you? You look thinner than before – is everything alright?" Grandpa expressed his concern.

"I'm perfectly fine, and Mucheng is treating me very kindly. Perhaps it's just a temporary loss of appetite that's caused the weight drop, so please, don't worry about me!" Ye Yunjin responded hastily, facing Mr. Qin's sudden care.

"Ah, don't be anxious; think of me as just an ordinary old man. We've met a few times, and I know you're a fine young man. Speaking of which, I know how Mucheng treated you. It's my fault for involving you in this. Maybe I shouldn't have asked you to become a part of the Qin family," Mr. Qin lamented with a sigh.

"No, no, I initially requested this, and it's not your concern. I'm genuinely grateful for the chance you've given me!"

Despite not understanding why Mr. Qin emphasized it multiple times, especially since they had only met twice on this occasion, Ye Yunjin refrained from probing further into why he was suddenly allowed into the Qin household. Sensing that the topic was best left unexplored, he chose not to ask any more questions.

-----------------------------------------

"It's alright, Mom, no need to overthink it. I'll come back more often when I have the chance," Qin Mucheng assured his family with genuine warmth.

"I'm genuinely delighted to hear that," his mother responded.

"Let's invite Yunjin as well. Mom has noticed that you don't appear to reject him as we might have assumed... am I right?" Bai Yiyan raised her gaze to Qin Mucheng. Observing no distinct expression on his face, she paused before adding, "Mom understands that you have someone you're fond of, but you also need to consider Yun Jin. After all, he is our 'daughter-in-law' and your partner. Besides, it's just the beginning; perhaps as you spend more time with him, you might grow fond of him too." Bai Yiyan made a sincere plea on behalf of Ye Yunjin.
