"Haru-kun, be a good boy in your mother's arms. It won't hurt, it'll be over soon."

Asako firmly hugged her crying child in her arms and sat down on a chair in the hospital examination room. Today is flu vaccination day. Her son Haru always cries because he hates injections.

“Haru-kun, it stings a little, but it’s okay.

The doctor skillfully pricked Haru's whipped white arm with a hypodermic needle. A transparent liquid is injected into Haru's body.

"I don't want to! I don't want to!"

Even though it was only for a few seconds, it must have been quite painful for Haru. Seeing him writhing and crying makes her cry with pity.

"Haru-kun, you're done. You did a great job."

When she gently stroked the head of her son who was crying with a bright red face, Haru's sweaty hair touched Asako's finger.

“Mama, Haru-kun, did best.

As they were walking through the hospital parking lot while holding hands, Haru spoke to her while weaving clumsy words. His big round eyes looking up at her. Haru look a lot like her ex-husband Ryosuke.

"That's right. You did a good job."

"Mama, Mama. Haru did his best."

Even after getting in the car, Haru is still talking in the back seat. Asako want to concentrate on driving, but all the time. Haru's voice echoed in the cramped car.

“Mama, Haru-kun, Is Haru-kun Great?

"Yeah, that's right. Haru-kun is great."

Asako get irritated with herself, who can only repeat what Haru said.

At times like this, Asako wishs Ryosuke was there. Ryosuke, who loved children, also loved Haru. If he sees Haru talking like this, sure Ryosuke will be very happy, listen to a lot of Haru's stories, and tell him how great Haru is. Even if Haru is crying, sure he'll be able to tell him that it's okay because Papa is here.

She don't think Haru isn't cute. She love him, and She think from the bottom of her heart that she would die for him. But suddenly she have doubts as to whether she really love this child. Thinking about it once, her doubts slowly spread in her chest.

"I'm sorry, Haru-kun, can you be a little quieter? Mama isn't not a good driver yet, so I want to concentrate."

After breaking up with Ryosuke, Asako got her driver's license. The two got divorced about a year ago. That's why Asako's car still has a beginner's mark on it.

"Shu-chuu? What is syu-chuu? Shushupopo?"

Hearing the word "concentration" for the first time, my son asked me with his big eyes sparkling. It should be cute, but why is that face reflected in the rearview mirror now so annoying?

“Haru-kun, I’m sorry.

Since I started raising Haru on my own, I feel like the number of times I apologize has increased in a day. My son has a fever. Please take a break. I'm sorry. Please pay child support as soon as possible, I'm sorry. Haru-kun, I'm sorry for being a little patient.

Asako shouldn't be the only one to blame. Asako alone shouldn't have more reasons to apologize than anyone else.

"Mommy! Let's go home! Haru-kun, is hungry! Hurry up! Hey, Mommy!"

Haru fussed. Like Ryosuke, Haru has a temper tantrum. Now that Haru is only three years old, he can't handle it on his own.

"Haru-kun, it's a little bit more. Just a little bit more, do your best. Ah, then let's sing! Let's do that. Then mom-"

"Wow! I'm hungry! I'll be home soon!"

It seems that the anger of Haru, who has become hungry, has already reached its peak. Haru no longer hears Asako's voice. Haru is not bad at all. Haru is still too young to control his emotions. She just needs to be strong as an adult, as a mother. She shouldn't be angry. If she can endure-

I want to go home already!”

Haru kneaded, and the car body that was waiting for the signal shook slightly. ―It was the limit of my patience.

“…Come on!”

Asako's loud voice echoed in the narrow car

She could feel her hand trembling slightly as she gripped the steering wheel. Finally yelled. He is still very small. He is a precious son whom she should love.

Perhaps surprised by the sudden loud voice, Haru's crying suddenly stopped. At that moment, she calmed down at once, and a great regret ran through Asako's heart. She feels Haru's gaze through the rearview mirror.

I'm sorry, Haru-kun.

Hot tears welled up from the depths of her eyes, covering Asako's vision and running down her cheeks. Her signal turns green. She hurriedly wiped away her tears with her hand and stepped on her accelerator. the car starts to move.

“…Mama, You crying?”

A thin voice came from the back seat. When I looked in the room mirror, I met Haru's uneasy face.

"Mom, Am I bad? I'm sorry, Haru-kun..., sorry?"

"No, Haru-kun. Haru-kun is not bad, so you don't have to apologize. I'm sorry that Mom made a big noise."

"Haru-kun is..."

After that, Haru fell silent. I don't cry anymore.

When I parked the car in front of the apartment parking lot, I took Haru out of the child seat. It's usually hard to get confused, but today Haru is even quieter.

“Haru-kun, please wash your hands and wait for a while.

It was right after I took Haru to the washroom and made him wash his hands. Without wiping his hands, Haru headed straight for the living room.

"Hey Haru-kun! You didn't wipe it off!"

Asako rushes after him with a towel, only to find Haru taking something out of a small drawer in the living room. He immediately comes to Asako.

"Mom, give me your forehead"

What Haru brought was a bandage. Haru hates bandages. That's why Asako always drew something on the bandages. The plaster that Haru brought has the Niko-chan mark on it.

"Haru-kun..."

Haru forced Asako to sit on the spot and put a bandage on Asako's forehead with his small hands. Looking into her mirror near her, Asako's forehead is covered with crumpled plaster.

"Mommy, good boy. Mommy, good boy."

It was always a magic word that Asako would say when Haru was injured. Haru gently rubs Asako's forehead while chanting over and over again. Mako's eyes filled with tears.

“Haru-kun… Thank you.”

"Mama, are you tired?"

He peers into Asako's face with a worried look on her face.

"Yeah, mom, it's okay now."

"Good! Haru-kun is glad!"

Suddenly, Haru's expression brightened. Even if it's not properly worded, what he want to say is fully conveyed. There was a loving presence in front of me who made me so happy just

 by smiling.

"Haru-kun, let's have Haru-kun's favorite hamburger today."

"Yay!"

It's okay if you're not perfect. She yelled, but she's the kid's mother and she loves him.

"I love you, Haru-kun."

After hugging Haru tightly, Asako headed to the kitchen. She felt like she had grown a lot, just a little bit.
